We’re excited to share that this upcoming gathering will take a slightly different format from our usual programming. Instead of our standard salon-style evening, we’ll be hosting a shorter session with a curated selection of “goods” available for you to explore and “pick up.”
We invite you to arrive promptly at 6 PM for an hour together in the space.
At 6:45 PM, we’ll all head out for a private dinner in Chinatown.
Please DO NOT eat beforehand :)
A salon, in its earliest form, was a gathering outside of institutions where people came together to share art, ideas, and conversation. In 17th-century Paris, salons provided spaces for writers, painters, and socialites to exchange ideas under the care of a host. In South Korea, scholars, poets, and artists met in tea houses, gardens, and private homes to share their works and stories. At their heart, salons created a third space, not quite home and not quite marketplace, but a social setting where culture and community could truly be felt.
꽃 [koht], which means “flower” in Korean, grows out of this lineage and carries it into Chicago today. Inspired by both Western and Eastern traditions, it is rooted in the idea of gathering as a cultural act.
Alcohol can get a little messy. For us, 꽃 offers a softer and more open rhythm for being together, much like tea or wine once did in earlier salons. This is how this gesture became a smoking social club: a contemporary salon for those who may not resonate with bar culture or nightlife anymore but still want a place to gather, enjoy, and feel connected.
